Fortunately there are various groups and agencies dedicated to preserving the distinct character of such properties and sustaining the vibrancy they add to their communities and the city as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>New York City's historic preservation movement came of age in 1965, when Mayor Robert Wagner signed the Landmarks Preservation Law.
