Water, electricity, gas, and fuel or steam usage are collected and tracked in an effort to help owners use less energy and save money.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEW FOR 2018<\/strong><br \/>\nLast October, NYC passed <a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001_Yuu1bU6nXW3lX1a2xItkG8ZMWB2aGDpQ3VSrmxPn1DW-Mwul_WdcmnTDglwYuoqFwASJ_PKqeVhRMFSifW1keT2BtwTwP5pNDJ2YwMoH2TqpAgzcGTPPeNRRhq_UXfODlRiCfMSswFKTCUbEVKlWy3zv46C7m91TIUrsCoHLnIpzENVrbsVguXrobkO2x1Wvj0KoE2DETYoo2rmAU3acsNUZ5Zzob5hNO5m1gR1-No=&amp;c=MN4ia1m-fl0BvNPAe73zCxw0mVfQTA_eSUz9xu8bcs8MVilxEfL_wQ==&amp;ch=0NAbLePvxzKuUOf3M43VR7ztT4KPDZ3ZBkoWizmBrsb63vkfVqBsow==\"><strong>Local Law 133\/16<\/strong><\/a>, which expands the list of buildings required to benchmark to include mid-size buildings <strong>25,000 square feet and larger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-size building owners must benchmark for the first time by <strong>May 1, 2018<\/strong>, and by May 1 every year thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>To submit benchmarking reports, owners need to register with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and enter\u00a0utilities data from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year into the EPA's <a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001_Yuu1bU6nXW3lX1a2xItkG8ZMWB2aGDpQ3VSrmxPn1DW-Mwul_WdcmnTDglwYuoqVJRxXGoLIIFzADfydH4zirPBxWp9kNcbtEEvE6XMhwOfBUR7bx3pEGwJwfkQmw2fQnMmYvzOH9vP06Amcrl17u_a4i1fr-9OguZCBWHCfBEtH2R0AFv9xicET3pYkbJvAuozeeUWVZ67UC3Bv-Lddg==&amp;c=MN4ia1m-fl0BvNPAe73zCxw0mVfQTA_eSUz9xu8bcs8MVilxEfL_wQ==&amp;ch=0NAbLePvxzKuUOf3M43VR7ztT4KPDZ3ZBkoWizmBrsb63vkfVqBsow==\"><strong>Energy Star Portfolio Manager<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VIOLATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nAny property on the <a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001_Yuu1bU6nXW3lX1a2xItkG8ZMWB2aGDpQ3VSrmxPn1DW-Mwul_WdcmnTDglwYuoqjSpdJsobHfoVg3-n1y04rc7dDL5ESxKzcHeMd2GUaW-cCym1Y3w0KYFWD5V_EKgl7v3sTEltelu8idyWgFHGMz96-J46zgj8nplchjarC89jPXgxsKZk5t4aPFhPoapPCUtMaFgT0TJre3nBNVAbu8udD_Y3_yw8sLVUnLt-l8o=&amp;c=MN4ia1m-fl0BvNPAe73zCxw0mVfQTA_eSUz9xu8bcs8MVilxEfL_wQ==&amp;ch=0NAbLePvxzKuUOf3M43VR7ztT4KPDZ3ZBkoWizmBrsb63vkfVqBsow==\"><strong>Covered Buildings List<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that has not submitted a benchmarking report by the May 1 deadline will receive a Notice of Violation from the NYC Department of Buildings and be fined $500.
