Constructed of brick with brownstone trim, the building\u2019s most distinctive features includes a wood-shingled faceted turret, which sits atop a three-sided corner bay; a delicate pedimented dormer; gable, tower, and mansard slate roofs; several decorative brick, stone, and terra cotta friezes that run across the building; and a tall chimney seated upon a lion\u2019s head corbel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exterior restoration and roof replacement project at 153 Lincoln Place initially began as a leakage evaluation, which uncovered significant defects that contributed to the premature failure of the roof. Based on the evaluation, RAND recommended a roof replacement and exterior repair program for the four-story Romanesque Revival townhouse. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5194\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5194\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5194\" src=\"https:\/\/randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"153 Lincoln Place Historic Exterior Restoration and Roof Replacement Project\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m.randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/m.randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web-150x103.jpg 150w, https:\/\/m.randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web-768x529.jpg 768w, https:\/\/m.randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web-485x334.jpg 485w, https:\/\/m.randpc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/9G0A8830edit-web.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RAND's restoration and roof replacement project at 153 Lincoln Place is a recipient of a 2017 Ortner Preservation Award.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RAND worked carefully with the board of Lincoln Condominium, contractor K Restoration &amp; Roofing, management firm EK Realty, and the Landmarks Preservation Commission to maintain the building\u2019s historical character and style. The restoration process included removing and resetting the turret\u2019s terra cotta shingles; removing and replacing defective wood and metal window trim; and refurbishing damaged delicate finials. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RAND\u2019s Project Architect Valerie Landscrina, RA and Senior Architect Ivan Mrakovcic, RA accepted the award at the March Park Slope Civic Council meeting.
